A chatbot created in 1966 by Joseph Weizenbaum at MIT. It used simple pattern matching to simulate conversation, mostly by reflecting questions back at the user. It was one of the first programs to appear to pass the Turing Test in casual conversation, and Weizenbaum was disturbed by how deeply some users bonded with it.
